Recycle Day Success

In recognition of America Recycles Day, the City of Longview Sanitation Department held the first annual Longview Recycles Day on Saturday November 10^th at the Longview Mall.

Many local companies joined the City of Longview in an effort to inform the community of the many ways people can recycle every day in Longview.  ABC Auto, Brookshire’s Groceries, Cartridge World, Interstate Batteries, Longview Computer Center, Republic Services, Rivers Recycling, Simon Malls and STS Recycling all joined the City of Longview in this effort.

Nearly 19,000 lbs of electronics were recycled, as well as 1,500 lbs of plastics, paper and other single stream recyclables.  Two hundred and fifty gallons of motor oil and 100 lbs of small batteries were also recycled.

Recycling Coordinator David Simmons says “We would like to thank all the businesses and people who came out to support Longview Recycles Day.  Special thanks also go to the volunteers from the Keep Longview Beautiful Association who worked so hard. Many tons of material was recovered on Saturday and this was a great success for the people of Longview. We hope to grow even more next year.”
