A thriving city doesn't just happen.  Selfless volunteers, who advise the city on its board and commissions are vital to helping identify the needs and desires of the community. The City of Longview has a number of various City Council-appointed Boards, Commissions and Committees, and sometimes the City Council may appoint short-term committees for special purposes.

Applications to serve are traditionally due by mid April.  Appointments are generally made in June. For more information, please contact the City Manager's Office at 903-237-1021.

All members must live inside Longview city limits except for the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee, Emergency Medical Service Advisory Board, and Partners in Prevention Steering Committee.  Some boards also have specific occupational requirements for some of its members.

For most boards, the City Council will appoint members to a maximum of 2 consecutive 2-year terms. Board, Commission and Committee members are required to attend regularly scheduled meetings, and poor attendance could be reason for Council to remove a member from office.
