Since the early-1950’s, Longview Fire Department has recognized the need for maintaining an adequately trained force of emergency responders who are prepared to address a myriad of complicated and complex life-threatening situations. In addition, as a Longview Fire Department employee, various certifications must be upheld to ensure state and federal mandates are met in order to provide emergency services. Longview Fire Training’s objectives are to not only meet these standards, rather exceed them.
The Training Section operates under the direction of the Training Section Chief and consists of three Training Captains (one for each shift). This section provides monthly training from a variety of disciplines which may include; fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials, and technical rescue. General oversight is also administered for Company level training.
Training offices are located at LFD’s Training Center. For hands-on training, the department often utilizes an array of props located at LFD’s Training Field.
Fire Training is also responsible for the direction and administration of the following:
- Specialty Teams
- Hiring
- Promotional Processes
- LFD Fire Explorers
- LFD Recruiting Team
