As a government entity, the City of Longview operates under the guidelines and statutes established at the local, state, and federal levels. At the local level, the City of Longview adopted a Home-Rule Charter in 1979, which sets the basic framework of governance. In addition, the City of Longview has the authority to adopt ordinances for local rules and regulations. Those ordinances are listed as part of our Code of Ordinances.
In 2015, the City of Longview adopted the Longview Comprehensive Plan. The document serves as a long-term strategic planning tool to help guide our growth and management.
