Lieutenant James Bettis currently serves as the Lieutenant over the 3rd Watch patrol shift.
Lt. Bettis began his tenure with the Longview Police Department in January 2003. He worked as a Patrolman until his promotion to Sergeant in August 2008. He has been supervisor of the Field Training Program, Bike Unit and School Resource Officer unit.
He holds a Master Peace Officers certification and is a certified TCOLE instructor, Taser instructor, riot control instructor, police mountain bike instructor, and Spike System instructor. James received his Bachelor degree in 2010 from University of Texas at Tyler. He has received several commendations and was Rookie of the Year in 2004.
