Officer John D. Rolls joined the Longview Police Department in May of 1983 as a Reserve Police Officer. During his service as a Reserve Officer, John D. Rolls was recognized as Reserve Officer of the Year in 1985.
In September of 1987, Officer John D. Rolls was hired by the City of Longview, Texas as a full-time Longview Police Officer. Officer John D. Rolls has spent his career with the Longview Police Department working in the Operations Bureau – Patrol and the Operations Support Bureau. Officer John D. Rolls first assignment was working with the public as a Park Patrol Officer. Since the 1990’s, Officer John D. Rolls has been a Police Area Representative for several different beats in the City of Longview.
Since 1994, Officer John D. Rolls has been a member of the Longview Police Department's Crisis Intervention Negotiations Unit. John is a member in good standing with the Texas Crime Prevention Association and Texas Association of Hostage Negotiators. In 2007, Officer John D. Rolls was honored with the Outstanding Crime Prevention Specialist Award for cities with a population between 50,000 and 99,000 by the Texas Crime Prevention Association. Officer John D. Rolls holds an Associate Degree from Kilgore College, a Master Peace Officer Certificate, a Crime Prevention Inspector Certificate and a Mental Health Officer Certificate all issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.
Officer John D. Rolls has been recognized for his duty related accomplishments during his career at the Longview Police Department. John has been awarded several commendations, including a Certificate of Civic Achievement Award, several Unit Commendation Awards and Officer of the Year Award. Officer John D. Rolls also has received several monthly awards
for Community Policing Employee of the Month. Officer John D. Rolls was recognized in September 2012, with a Service Award from the Longview Police Department and the City of Longview for 25 years of service.
In his current assignment as the Beat 40 Police Area Representative, John is responsible for supporting and aiding Beat supervisors within the district and administering the department's crime prevention programs while maintaining a partnership with other community relations organizations and agencies, as well as other similar community groups within the city. Officer John D. Rolls promotes crime prevention by developing and implementing community relations programs in support of the "Community Relations Action Plan" that addresses the community's needs.
Officer John D. Rolls also disseminates information and input from citizens to the appropriate police unit or division. Officer John D. Rolls manages a day to day operation of storefront type activities as required while performing traditional police duties. When called upon, John conducts residential and commercial security surveys and assists in conducting citizen surveys. John schedules daily activities and events and he maintains a list of referral agencies and refers persons with problems to the appropriate agencies within the community.
