Enhanced 911 service is an emergency telephone system that offers any or all of the following features:
Automatic Number Identification (ANI) provides the calltaker with the telephone number of the caller.
Automatic Location Identification (ALI) provides the calltaker with an address for the caller, which enables the responding agency to find the location even if the caller cannot speak. The ALI screen also indicates the type of service (residential, business or coin) and the appropriate emergency service providers.
Selective Routing (SR) makes it possible for calls from citizens within a large area to be routed automatically to the proper jurisdiction.
