When positions are available, opening notices are placed in local newspapers, mailers are sent out to local colleges and other entities, and occasionally postings are made on selected electronic bulletin boards. Applications are accepted at the City of Longview Human Resources Division. The prospective applicant must pass a keyboarding skills test prior to applying for the position. The application process includes the completion of an in-depth Personal History Statement. The applications of qualifying applicants are forwarded to the Public Safety Communications Division for review and further screening. Screening includes successfully completing the Perfex Skills Test, which measures the applicant’s aptitude for multi-tasking, and an in-depth interview. The best-qualified candidate is given a conditional job offer and must then complete a comprehensive background investigation, polygraph examination, a final interview with the division manager and drug and alcohol screening.
