Officer Brandon Thornton grew up in Longview and graduated from Longview High School. He attended Panola and Kilgore Colleges. Officer Thornton began his Law Enforcement Career in 2001 as a certified Police Officer for the Gilmer Police Department. In 2003, he left the Gilmer Police Department and started as a patrol officer for the Longview Police Department. Officer Thornton worked 2 years in patrol and transferred to the Traffic Division as a motorcycle officer. For the past 10 years he has been assigned to the Traffic Division. During this time, he earned his Master Peace Officer license and several certifications which include Field Sobriety Testing, Police Motorcycle Operator and Forensic Mapping. He became the Special Program / Citywide Police Area Representative Officer in September 2016.
Officer Thornton is the Department's liaison for Special Programs City Wide. His duties include the implementation of new and existing programs and working with the Longview community to help reduce crime and solve problems effecting their quality of life.
