Public Notice of Unclaimed Property

The City of Longview is attempting to locate the rightful owners of unclaimed property.  Each year various departments of the City of Longview report unclaimed cash, from uncashed (outstanding) checks, refunds, deposits, overpayments or any other transaction creating a credit balance to the Finance division.  This property is presumed abandoned and is subject to Chapter 76 of the title 6, Unclaimed Property Texas Property Code.    

All property over $100 that are deemed abandoned and are more than three (3) years outstanding for vendors or one (1) year outstanding for an employee payroll check as of March 1st of each year are transferred to the State of Texas Comptroller’s Office by July 1st. All checks under $100.00 is retained by the City of Longview.

If the City of Longview is holding property belonging to you, then we want to help you claim your property! If an owner wants to claim the property, the owner must present proof of the claim and establish the right to receive the property.

Steps to Claim Your Property
For property that is deemed abandoned, please check the State of Texas Comptroller Unclaimed Property Website and and follow the instructions to claim your property.

For property that is deemed abandoned and held by the City of Longview:

1.  Check the City of Longview Unclaimed Property Listing.

2.  If you have unclaimed property, download and complete the appropriate claim form. Please check the form to ensure it has been completed, signed, and current mailing address and phone number is listed.  

3.  Return the completed claim form and required documentation to the Finance division by either:

Should questions arise while processing your claim, the claims examiner will contact you either by phone or letter.  Please allow 6-8 weeks for processing from receipt of completed form and proof of ownership.
