The first part of the Silent Soldier Event will take place at the Longview Exhibit Building from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. The sole purpose of this event is to spread the word about the relevancy of PTSD and Suicide Prevention Awareness in a safe, positive multicultural atmosphere. ACTIVE will provide an opportunity to connect with mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members to promote Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Crisis Care. An ACTIVE coalition of individuals, including Army Veteran Ricky Henderson, will provide narrative stories that will educate, inspire and build community rapport. Food and SILENT SOLDIER T-Shirts will be available to purchase.
The second portion of the Silent Soldier Event, 'A Journey Through The Eyes of a Silent Soldier', an honorary event to commemorate Silent Soldiers Shaquille Williams and Sederick Hill, will be held in the Eitelman Conference Room from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. It will be an evening filled with positive energy pertaining to the prevention of PTSD and Mental Health issues. An ACTIVE coalition of select individuals will provide a powerful platform designed to showcase the talent and passions of native East Texas artists. It will be filled with testimonies by the mother of Shaquille Williams, Kristy Duffie, and the mother of Sederick Hill, Debra Kelley. The event will also feature performances by entrepreneur, nonprofit author, motivational speaker, playwright, songwriter and poet Trina 'TiTi' Ladette, as well as Cleveland and East Texas poet "The Story Teller" Datonya Bradley Esined Notlimah. A tribute to the Silent Soldiers will be performed by East Texas musician Shelby Adkins, while Carlos DjLos Rimes will be spinning the wheels. Both events will be hosted by internationally-recognized spoken-word artist, actor, author and East Texas native, Army Veteran Mr. Michael 'Mike' Guinn.
