Mentoring

The public is invited to attend a reception honoring mentors of Partners inPrevention Mentoring Programs, Forever Friends and Co-Pilots on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at10:30 a.m. in the City Council Chambers, 300 W. Cotton St., Longview, Texas. To commemorate the work of over 200 mentors across East Texas through Partners in Prevention Mentoring Program, Longview Mayor Dr. Andy Mack and the Longview City Council will be honoring mentors. January marks the 16th Annual National Mentoring Month, a time to raise awareness of the positive impact mentoring has in the lives of young people as well as a time to celebrate the mentoring relationships essential to creating sustainable futures for our youth. During the ceremony, Kasha Williams, City Councilwoman, will serve as the Master of Ceremonies and Mayor Andy Mack will address the mentors. Chick-fil-A will receive an award for the Business Making the Most Significant Contribution to Mentoring in the previous year. Acting City Manager and current mentor Keith Bonds will also speak along with Forever Friends alumni, Longview Police Officer Maira Gonzalez. Mentors will be present to be honored. In 2017, Partners in Prevention’s Forever Friends and Co-Pilots Mentoring Programs provided 239 youth with caring, trained adult mentors. Mentors can choose to mentor a young person in Longview, Pine Tree, Spring Hill, Hallsville or Kilgore Independent School Districts. The mission of Partners in Prevention Mentoring Program is to inspire and encourage young men and women for Leadership through positive relationships. The Partners in Prevention Mentoring Program has provided professionally supported mentoring for over 21 years.
