On May 19, 2018 at approximately 550pm the Longview Fire Department responded to 604 Omega Street for a residential structure fire. The fire originated in the bedroom where an 18 y/o male had been sleeping and he awoke to find his room on fire. There were no injuries reported and the cause of the fire was determined to be an overloaded power strip in the bedroom.
There was not a working smoke detector in the bedroom where the fire started. Citizens are encouraged to have a working smoke detector in each sleeping room and one in the adjacent hallway. Also, it is recommended to change the batteries each time you change your clocks. If you own your own home and cannot afford smoke detectors, call the Longview Fire Marshal’s Office at 903-237-1119 and ask if you qualify for free detectors.
