The City of Longview’s Unity and Diversity Committee (UDC) normally meets at Noon on the first Monday of each month at the Longview Public Library, but the August and September meetings have been rescheduled to occur at Noon on Monday, August 13 and Monday, September 10. During monthly meetings, the UDC allows people from all races, socioeconomic statuses, and walks of life to come in and have a safe space to ask difficult questions and engage in a necessary dialogue.
The committee hopes to be a catalyst for hard conversations surrounding race across East Texas, and in turn, allow those conversations to move the community to be more united. The UDC committee has recently started a Faith Tour Initiative in which the committee members visit different churches within East Texas and immerse themselves in an experience that they would not normally be exposed to. Also, the committee is in the process of creating a plan of action for next year. Anyone is welcome to attend the meetings at the Longview Public Library, 222 W. Cotton Street. The committee meeting dates for the rest of 2018 are scheduled for Noon on Mondays (August 13, September 10, October 1, November 5, and December 3).
