It is with a heavy heart that Longview Police Chief Mike Bishop announces the passing of retired Longview Police Chief Don Dingler. Don Dingler passed away at his home on August 29, 2018. Chief Dingler served the Longview community from April 16, 1973 until July 31, 2015 when he retired as the Chief of Police. Dingler was a Longview native graduating from Longview High School and from the University of Texas at Tyler with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. Chief Dingler began his career with the Longveiw Police Department in 1973 and promoted to the rank of Chief of Police on February 1, 2011. During his career, Chief Dingler served the community in patrol, traffic, training, jail services, and narcotics. During his tenure with the police department he graduated from the FBI National Academy and the Bill Blackwood Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas. Chief Dingler was a smiling face around the police department and the community for over a quarter of a century and his direction and kindness will be dearly missed. As a department we salute his memory and honor his service and offer our prayers to the family and friends of Chief Dinger. Services are pending with Radar Funeral Home.
