[ARCHIVED] Gov. Abbott's Coronavirus Order Impacts Longview Residents and Businesses

Coronavirus Update

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott on Thursday issued a wide-ranging executive order to help limit the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) across the state.  The provisions of the order, which include closing restaurants, bars, gyms, and schools, apply to Longview residents.

The order becomes effective on midnight Friday, March 20, and lasts until midnight Friday, April 3.  

The order includes:

  • Limiting of all social gatherings to fewer than 10 people
  • Banning visitation to nursing homes and retirement center unless a person is providing "critical assistance"
  • Closing dine-in service at restaurants and bars, but allowing pick up or delivery service
  • Closing all schools
  • Closing gyms

The executive order may be extended beyond April 3, if necessary.
