UPDATED - 8:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 19
The Warming Shelter at the Longview Public Library will be open today, Friday, Feb. 19, from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.
The library will be closed on Saturday and Sunday, before returning to normal operations on Monday, Feb. 22.
UPDATED - 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18
Sanitation will return to regular collection schedule next week. However, due to the large volume expected next week, yard waste will not be accepted curbside.
Customers should hold all yard waste until the week of March 1 or bring it to the Compost Site. The Compost Site will reopen as usual on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
Extra trash outside cart will be collected, but please keep everything in the cart if possible.
UPDATED - Noon on Thursday, Feb. 18
The Longview Metropolitan Planning Organization Policy Board meetings and the HOME and CDBG Grant Mandatory Application meetings have been postponed and will be rescheduled.
The MPO meeting, originally scheduled for Wednesday, Feb 24, will now be held Wednesday, March 3.
The HOME and CDBG Grant Mandatory Application Meetings scheduled for Feb. 18 and 19, have been postponed and will be rescheduled.

UPDATED - 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17
City of Longview offices plan to reopen and sanitation collection is scheduled to resume on Monday, Feb. 22.
City offices and services, including recreation centers, compost site, and Longview Transit will remain closed through Sunday, Feb. 21.
The Longview Public Library will continue to serve as a community Warming Shelter and will be open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18. (See update below for more information)
Trash and recycling will not be collected for the remainder of this week, but collection is scheduled to resume on Monday, Feb. 22 on regular schedule.
The CHRISTUS Good Shepherd COVID-19 Vaccination Hub Clinic scheduled for this weekend, Feb. 20 and 21, is postponed, and those with an appointment scheduled for Feb. 20 & 21 will be automatically rescheduled for the same time slot on the dates below, with no action on their part needed at this time:
- Saturday, Feb. 20 (2nd dose appointments) will be rescheduled for Friday, March 5
- Sunday, Feb. 21 (1st dose appointments) will be rescheduled for Sunday, March 7

UPDATED - 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17
The City of Longview has adequate water supply and is NOT under a boil water notice.
The City of Longview has three different water sources (Sabine River, Lake Cherokee, and Lake O' the Pines), and three different water treatment plants. The water treatment plants are capable of delivering 52 million gallons per day.
The City's typical usage is between 10-15 million gallons per day. The system has seen increased usage in recent days, but is only using about 50 percent of capacity.
Unlike other area cities, the City is not limiting water and is not under a boil water notice at this time.
All of the City's water facilities have maintained power throughout this week's winter weather event. We urge everyone to use water efficiently, as the City's water system uses electricity to deliver water, and utility companies are urging conservation of power during this time.
UPDATED - 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17
The Longview Public Library will open at 2 p.m. today as a Warming Shelter. The facility, which is located at 222 W. Cotton St., will be open from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Food and beverages will not be provided, and residents are encouraged to bring their own snacks, supplies, and device chargers.
Hiway 80 Rescue Mission (3117 W. Marshall Ave.) and The Salvation Army of Longview (519 E. Cotton St.) have also opened as warming shelters for those without power who need a place to stay warm.
Roads remain icy, and travel is discouraged at this time. If you must be on the road, please use extreme caution. Visit LongviewTexas.gov/RoadClosures for an up-to-date listing of road closures and issues.
UPDATED - 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 15
Due to continued inclement weather, City of Longview offices, library, recreation centers, compost site and Longview Transit will be closed until further notice when the weather and driving conditions improve. City staff will continue to monitor the weather and an announcement will be made when services are able to resume.
Trash/Recycling Collection
Sanitation collection will not be available until the weather permits. An adjusted sanitation collection schedule will be determined according to factors such as weather, road conditions, and the availability of the local landfill and recycling center.
Longview Municipal Court
Longview Municipal Court hearings are canceled for the week of Feb. 15 - 19.
Planning and Zoning Commission
The Planning and Zoning Commission meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 16 has been canceled and zoning items slated for the meeting will be heard on a later date.
City emergency personnel are continuing to monitor weather and road conditions. Current forecasts for Wednesday and Thursday call for continued wintry precipitation and subfreezing temperatures, and residents are encouraged to stay at home as much as possible and use extreme caution if traveling on City roadways. UPDATED - 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13
Due to the expected inclement weather, the Longview Public Library will be closed on Sunday, Feb. 14.
In addition, City of Longview offices, including Parks and Recreation's three recreation centers, will be closed on Monday, Feb. 15.
Longview Transit service will not run Monday, Feb. 15. Emergency personnel in Police, Fire, and Public Safety Communications, as well as all Public Works staff, will report to work as normal.
UPDATED - 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13
The City's Geographic Information Systems division has created a new interactive map to show road closures due to the pending inclement weather.
The map, which can be found at https://cloud.longviewtexas.gov/maps/winterstorm, will display the current number of road closures, the location of closures in one or both directions, road blocks, road detours, and streets-related service requests.
The map will be updated throughout the weekend and into next week to help notify the public of weather-related street issues in the City of Longview.
