On February 23, 2021 at approximately 4:19 p.m., the Longview Fire Department responded to 118 Sidney Street for a reported structure fire. When fire department crews arrived there was no visible smoke or fire but the sound of an activated smoke detector could be heard from the outside of the house. After a short time investigating the scene crews were able to find the source of the smoke. A chair and a space heater had been placed too close to each other and the chair starting melting causing the smoke. There was no damage to the structure and no reported injuries.
As a reminder, it is important to remember that space heaters require three feet of clearance from combustibles and should always be plugged directly into the wall outlet without the use of an extension cord.
The Longview Fire Department responded with 3 fire engines, 2 ladder trucks, 1 ambulance and 4 support vehicles for a total of 21 personnel.
