[ARCHIVED] INPUT NEEDED

Mobberly Avenue

Longview residents are invited to Community Open House meetings on Thursday, Sept. 30 and Tuesday, Oct. 12 to discuss the renovation of Mobberly Avenue approved by voters in the 2018 Street Bond.

The Mobberly Complete Street Project will consist of reducing the number of travel lanes from 5 lanes to 3 lanes to add buffered bike lanes and improve existing sidewalks to Mobberly Avenue. The goal of the project is to make Mobberly Avenue safe and accessible for both pedestrians and cyclists and efficiently manage existing, and future traffic demands.

The first meeting will be held Thursday, Sept. 30, at the Belcher Center Parking Lot at LeTourneau University, 2100 S. Mobberly Ave.  The second meeting be held Tuesday, Oct. 12, at at Clarence W. Bailey Elementary School in the South Ward Community Park, 1011 S. Mobberly Ave.

At the meetings, residents will hear about the purpose of a complete street, the purpose of the project and the project limits, and prospective parking configurations.  They will also have an opportunity to give their input on the project and voice their opinion on other improvements or enhancements that the project should consider.

The Project

The Mobberly Complete Street Project was approved by voters in Proposition B in the 2018 Bond election. Improvements to Mobberly Avenue were first identified in the Longview Comprehensive Plan which was adopted by the City Council in March 2015.

The City’s Comprehensive Plan is a long-term planning tool that identifies the community’s development priorities for the future, specifically the next 10 to 20 years. The improvements to Mobberly Avenue were identified in the Comprehensive Plan as part of the City’s initiative to increase private investment along key entry roadways, improve connectivity for pedestrian and cyclist, and provide alternative modes of transportation to promote healthy living. Extensive community outreach and input meetings were conducted during the comprehensive planning process to capture the community’s vision to make Longview a livable and economically vibrant community.
