On November 5, 2021 at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Longview Fire Department responded to 407 Shely Street for a reported residential structure fire. The fire department arrived and found heavy smoke coming from the attic. Crews were able to gain entry and extinguisher the fire, which is believed to have originated in the kitchen and spread into the attic. Five animals had to be rescued and given first aid but unfortunately several more perished. The homeowners had left approximately thirty minutes before the fire for work. Smoke detectors alerted the neighbors who called 9-1-1. No other injuries were reported. It is estimated that the fire did approximately fifty thousand dollars in damage.
The Longview Fire Department responded with 3 fire engines, 2 ladder trucks, 1 ambulance and 4 support vehicles for a total of 21 personnel.
