Longview Fire Department joins forces with Longview High School and Kilgore College in a program that gives high school students a jump-start on an EMT career. Longview High School recently implemented a dual-credit program that will allow students the opportunity to earn two years of college credit hours through Kilgore College. As part of this program, students can enroll in an EMT course designed to mirror the curriculum intended for college credit students enrolled in EMT basic courses at Kilgore College.
Following completion of this course, students may opt to enroll in summer clinicals with the Longview Fire Department. By working directly with Longview Fire paramedics, students will gain hands-on experience in the realm of pre-hospital emergency medical care. Field work gives a greater familiarity with the kind of work EMS providers do and, hopefully, will increase students’ confidence in their ability to perform patient care skills early in their education.
