On Tuesday, March 1, four members of the Longview Fire Department Wildland Firefighting team were activated to respond to help support wildfire operations in West Texas.
These four members will be part of seven different strike teams that were activated as part of the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS). They will report to the Operations Headquarters in Childress, Texas were they will wait for their assignment.
“We ask that you keep these firefighters and their families in your prayers until they are able to return home,” Fire Marshal Kevin May said.
TIFMAS is a statewide program that helps Texas communities respond to hazards including wildfires. The Longview Fire Department has worked with the program for about a decade and sends personnel several times a year to assist with wildfires in Texas and across the country.
