[ARCHIVED] Quick Thinking Citizen Alerts Police Resulting in Suspected Vehicle Burglar Being Arrested

On November 16, 2015 at 8:42 a.m., Longview Police were dispatched to a suspicious person call in the 100 Block of East Hawkins Parkway. When Officers arrived they were told a black male was caught attempting to go through a tool box at the location. The suspect left the scene prior to officer's arriving.

At 9:45 a.m., Police were dispatched to another suspicious person call in the 3300 Block of North Fourth Street. Officers were told a black male in a black passenger car with paper tags was attempting to break into a tool box in the back of a truck in the parking lot of the business. While officers were responding to the scene they located the car traveling Westbound on East Loop 281. Officers were able to stop on the vehicle in the 400 Block of West Loop 281. Officers located numerous construction-type and lawn care tools in the suspect's car. The suspect lied about his identity to Police. Police were able to positively identify him and determine he had an outstanding parole warrant. He was arrested for the Parole warrant and Fail to ID Fugitive. He was transported to the Gregg County Jail without incident.

Police would like to thank the observant employee for alerting Police to this crime in progress. Due to the quick thinking of the employee Police were able to apprehend the suspect and will be able to return the victim's stolen property. Police also want to encourage those who were in this area this morning to check to ensure they have not fallen victim to this thief. If someone feels they are missing property we encourage them to contact the Longview Police Department for further information or to file a theft report. At this time, Police are only aware of two locations that the suspect may have targeted. If anyone has information about other locations this suspect may have targeted they are also encouraged to call Police with information and can reference case #15-19358.
