On Sept. 4, 2022 at approximately 3:56 a.m. the Longview Fire Department responded to 610 Rockwall Drive for a reported residential structure fire.  When crews arrived they were advised that one of the residents was still inside the burning structure.  Crews were able to rescue the victim and she was transported to a local hospital where she later died.  A second resident was alerted to the fire by the working smoke detector and was able to escape with only minor injury associated with smoke inhalation.  He was treated on the scene and did not required transport.  Two of the family pets died in the fire as well.

The victim was identified as Carolyn West, 79, of Longview.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Longview Fire Department responded with three fire engines, two ladder trucks, three ambulance, and four support vehicles for a total of 28 personnel on scene.
