Understanding the Struggle of Poverty Workshop is scheduled for January 13, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Maude Cobb Activity Center, 100 Grand Blvd. Fee: $25 (Lunch on your own).
Poverty is not a game. Poverty is a reality for more than 20,000 people living in Gregg County Texas. Participating in a poverty simulation gives individuals a glimpse into the daily struggles of poverty and the challenge of meeting goals while overcoming barriers. Each participant is given a persona - a single Mom, a college student, a working family - and failure to meet your goals could result in lost job, lost benefit or becoming homeless.
The Bridges Out of Poverty Training is a comprehensive approach to understanding poverty and provides tools for change. The Bridges model is being used in hundreds of communities across the U.S., including Longview.
