[ARCHIVED] SCAM ALERT!

Scam Alert

LPD received information today about a new scam that is showing up in this area. People who have been contacted have received an email that contains information to alarm the reader such as "You can RUN but can never HIDE", "my colleagues has been in your state right now keeping eye's on every steps you make", "Now do you want to LIVE OR DIE? As someone close to you has paid us to kill you" and "REMEMBER, SOMEONE WHO KNOWS YOU VERY WELL WANT YOU DEAD". The scam then goes on to ask for lump sums of money and to email the scammer at a specific email address.

We are warning citizens not to open emails that come from email addresses they don't recognize or may look suspicious. In this case, like many other scams, the scam artists use threats, bad language, and intimidation to scare the victim into sending them cash or some other form of payment.

Feel free to pass this on to those who may not have access to the internet as scam artists use the postal service, internet sites, telephone calls, or face to face contact to victimize the public.
