On November 21 about 6:15 p.m. the Longview Fire Department responded to 514 Crystal St. for a reported residential structure fire. When crews arrived they found heavy fire conditions on the front corner of the house and fire had extended into the attic. The fire had self-vented through the roof prior to arrival of the fire department. It took approximately 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. The fire did an estimated $50,000 in damage. There were no reported injuries and the Red Cross is assisting the 5 residents. The fire is believed to have started from discarded ashes that were placed in a plastic trash can earlier in the day when one of the residents had cleaned out the fireplace.
The Longview Fire Department responded with 3 fire engines, 2 ladder trucks, 1 ambulance and 4 support vehicles for a total of 21 personnel.
