The City of Longview Partners in Prevention is seeking adult volunteers to serve as a mentors to a children in the Longview, Pine Tree, Spring Hill, Hallsville and Kilgore Independent School Districts. A New Mentor Training for the Forever Friends and Co-Pilots program is scheduled for August 26th from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Anyone interested in becoming a mentor can call 903-237-1019 and register for the training session. Forever Friends matches caring women with girls in sixth grade through high school. These mentors and girls meet weekly as a group on campuses during the school day. Co-Pilots are volunteer adult mentors to boys. These men are match with boys in first grade through high school.
Forever Friends celebrated 20 years to mentoring this year. A young woman who was in Forever Friends in 2003 shared her experience stating, “I was invited into Forever Friends in the fifth grade. Every week from that point on, I knew that I would have a place to retreat in a welcoming environment. My mom could not afford for us to participate in extracurricular activities, so being involved in Forever Friends meant being a part of something bigger than myself.”
