[ARCHIVED] Evening Fire Displaces Four Residents

LFD news

At or around 7:54 PM on December 19, 2016, Longview Fire Department responded to 907 E. Melton St, on arrival fire crews found the attic fully involved with fire as well as two rooms on fire. Earlier in the day, the occupant had experienced a leak in the water line in the wall that serviced the laundry room. They had attempted to dry out the electrical panel “old style” fuse box and the wiring in that area. The fire started in the wall of the laundry room traveling into the attic and the adjacent rooms on both sides of the wall. The home did not have working smoke alarms due to the batteries being dead, fortunately the occupants were able to get out of the home without injuries. The family of four was displaced as a result of the fire; they are being assisted by the Red Cross. The owners were not insured, it is unknown if the home will be repairable at this time. It is imperative to keep smoke alarms in working condition and if a home is experiencing electrical issues to have a licensed electrician evaluate and make the necessary repairs.
