  1. Story Time at the Longview Arboretum

    Story Time is BACK! Please join us at the Longview Arboretum amphitheater every Tuesday at 10:30 AM during Summer Reading Club. We’ll have plenty of singing, dancing, and interactive activities for kids and caretakers as we read selected stories from our collection! This is an IN-PERSON EVENT. Dress cool, and bring water! You’re welcome to park at the arboretum’s main entrance and walk to the amphitheater, but we recommend you enter through the Longview Convention Complex’s west gate entrance for a shorter trek. Yard signs will be posted to follow, but it will be like you’re heading to Maude Cobb where we’ve hosted past SRC events.     During some interactions with the public, de-escalation techniques may be needed. Proper training is helpful to prepare officers since situations such as these may occur from time to time. This course will cover: • ICAT Modules for De-Escalation, including the Critical Decision-Making Model (TCOLE Mandated) • Understanding and Integrating De-Escalation Techniques • Interacting with people in crisis • Communications in tactical situations • Understanding situational awareness and how it relates to de-escalation techniques ?     BASIC PEACE OFFICER COURSE (TCOLE #1000696) LIMITED OPENINGS The Longview Police Academy is currently accepting applications for the next Basic Peace Officer Course! Application preference will be given to individuals who have been accepted for employment with a police agency. All necessary forms must be fully completed, processed, approved and on file by April 5, 2021 for entrance into the academy. Tuition for the academy is $1,000.00 and is payable prior to the first day of the academy. Payment must be submitted by check made payable to “Longview Police Department”. No credit cards or purchase orders accepted, however an invoice may be requested. Applicants must have their fingerprints submitted through the FAST fingerprint system.
